Workshop description: Bring your ukuleles and find out why your ukulele is the perfect tool for writing beautiful vocal arrangements in just minutes. We'll sing arrangements of folk, gospel and jazz favourites. Best of all, you'll learn how to create your own multi-part harmonies faster than you can say "My Mom Made Me Mow My Lawn!" If you love to sing, this is the class for you! If you're a shy singer, this is the class for you too!
And if you'd like to experience Canadian Folk Music Award-winners and JUNO nominees James Hill and Anne Janelle's new musical project, Champagne Weather, they'll be presenting it in Ottawa on April 15 at 7 p.m. at Club SAW. There is ukulele in this show though it is only a part of the musical texture rather than the focal point. Cello, violin, and ukulele sparkle like a field of stars, grounded only by the rumble of low-fi synth. With a blend of songwriting and sound sculpture, Champagne Weather artfully bridges these worlds with a sound that evokes Philip Glass and Steve Reich even as it harks back to Appalachian fiddle and Maritime folksong. The show incorporates some of their minimalist and pop leanings alongside the folk-inspired songs.
